5 Myths About Overcoming Stuttering – Avoid These Traps!

By

5 Myhts About Overcoming StutteringI had been a victim of these for YEARS. Don’t do the mistakes I did. Don’t fall into these traps.

Here are the 5 myths about overcoming stuttering. Knowing these will help you to avoid these mistakes that take YEARS for most people to realize. On the other hand, being aware of these myths will make everything easier, shorter and a lot more effective for you.

1- Overcoming Stuttering Is About “Fixing” It

A lot of marketing I’ve seen in our community is based on this promise, so you need to be extra careful with this. Most organizations/individuals communicate the idea of “Come along and we teach you a stuttering technique which you can fix your stuttering with”.

No, no, no. Never ever fall into this trap. It’s the worst mindset you can have if you want to overcome stuttering.

Overcoming stuttering is NOT about fixing it, it is about DISSOLVING it. Stuttering is a state of mind and body. It’s not that you don’t know how to produce sounds and words. We all know that we do it at times and speak fluently. Do you stutter ALL the time? Most probably not.

That by itself is a good sign that there are other factors involved in stuttering. Stuttering is not a “thing”, therefore your approach should not be fixing it but dissolving it! We’ll talk more on this in the next myth about overcoming stuttering and stammering.

2- Learning Some Physical Stuttering Techniques Is Enough To Overcome Stuttering

This may be true in some very rare cases, but in general any PWS(person who stutters) need a holistic, multi-approach strategy to deal with and overcome stuttering.

You should never underestimate the importance of the mental side of the equation. Your mindset is so CRITICAL when it comes to overcoming your stuttering challenge. Your thoughts, your emotions, your perceptions, your beliefs and the way you approach the problem is very critical and need to be addressed correctly.

3- There Is Nothing That Can Be Done For Stuttering

Have you ever been on internet forums, discussion groups or even support groups where people constantly spread their negative energy and claim that there is nothing that can be done for stuttering?

They defend this “beyond genius” idea with some “scientific studies”. They don’t know how to defend it but all they say is “stuttering is a neurological flaw”, “stuttering is genetic” and things along those lines to prove that there is nothing that can be done for stuttering and nobody should waste time trying to improve their speech.

I call these people “born failures who suck motivation from possible winners”.

I am not saying that all those scientific studies are scams, in fact some of those results may lead us to the right direction when it comes to finding the core of the problem. However, no matter what the core reason of stuttering is, there is a solution to it. It is definitely possible to IMPROVE your speech to a great level and eventually overcome stuttering.

If the hypothesis “there is nothing that can be done for stuttering” is true, then could anyone please explain me how on earth there are hundreds of stutterers who successfully overcame stuttering?

Don’t let anybody shape your future! You CAN improve your speech to a great level and eventually overcome stuttering. Not everybody overcome it completely but if you follow the footsteps of those successful stutterers you can at least improve your speech to a GREAT LEVEL.

Yes, curing stuttering is not possible yet but you can learn to improve your speech to a great level where stuttering would not be an issue in your life anymore, it would not be
an obstacle on your way to live the life you desire. This is a fact and it has been proven by hundreds of successful stutterers who are now enjoying a FULLY EXPRESSIVE, CONFIDENT and SUCCESSFUL life while others are still talking about why it cannot be achieved.
(Don’t get me wrong. I am not claiming that I helped all those people to overcome stuttering, some even helped me to overcome my stuttering. Some I helped and some others I got help from as my coaches and mentors)

Remember that, at this exact moment…

Some people are coming up with excuses why a dream cannot happen, while some others are LIVING THAT DREAM!

4- Some People Can Overcome Stuttering Because They Are “Special”

No, nobody is special. I personally met hundreds of those people and no one was different than the rest of other PWS community members. They are all average people and did not have anything “special” that you don’t have.

All they had and did different was; they learned WHAT to do and HOW to do it… and most important of all, they didn’t let that knowledge sit on their bookshelf or on their computer’s hard drive and they TOOK ACTION.

Taking action is the fine line between success and failure, reality and dream. It doesn’t matter how much you know, unless you put what you know in action!

Nobody is more special than you are. Nobody was better than you are or less severe or more smart or anything like that… they just FOLLOWED WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE!

5- If You Want, Try And Work Enough On It, You Should Be Able To Overcome Stuttering

No, no matter how much you want or how hard you try, you cannot succeed in overcoming stuttering UNLESS you know what to do, how to do and when to do it.

Wanting, trying and working hard is not enough to overcome stuttering. If you don’t learn the RIGHT KNOWLEDGE and APPLY it the RIGHT WAY, I am afraid nothing would get you your desired outcome. You want results, therefore you need to learn from people who already got those results.

The best way to achieve a goal is to analyze people who ALREADY ACHIEVED that goal and follow what they did.

It’s even better if you can analyze all those success stories, put everything together and figure out the common elements in those success stories. Everything you(or any PWS who wants to become successful in overcoming his/her stuttering) need to know compiled in a package as MODELS, SYSTEMS and STRATEGIES which anybody can apply.

… and that is why I decided to put SDMP together. You can find everything about SDMP in this video.

Learn about my story and how other successful stutterers have done it by clicking this link.

Take care and avoid those 5 traps we discussed in this article.

All the best,

Chazzler

P.S: People ask me where to start. Stop wasting time, don’t do the mistakes I did… and start from SDMP today without losing any more time!

It’s the package I wish I had when I first decided to do something about my speech. It would have saved me a lot of time, money and frustration… of course if you really want to do something about your speech. After all, it is your life so it is your call…Here is the video if you are interested.

Nice article! Will surely help the PWS.
But even after trying all the things that you mentioned, sometimes at many critical moments all the strategies fails, all your planning goes in vain. And then at that moment the PWS feels that nothing can be done about stammering.
Hope not getting trapped in the above things will help the PWS making some sound strategies that will eventually help them to overcome their stammering.
Thanks again for the article. Nice initiative! 🙂

Hi Harish,
When you don’t totally believe in something, it is very easy to get disrupted by negative thoughts and self limiting beliefs. All strategies fail because we don’t fully believe we can achieve our ultimate goal. That’ll only come by facing your fears and proving yourself that you can do it.

Of course there will be ups and downs during this process, but the fact is if you follow the right pathway you’ll be improving every single day!

Curing stuttering is not possible(as of today) but it is definitely possible to improve your speech to a great level. This journey starts with you though, people can show you the right direction and give you the tools you need but nobody can make it for you.

I think before anything else you need to ask yourself:
Do I really want to change my speech for better by doing whatever it takes? or do I want to do nothing, keep everything the same way and expect some magic to happen overnight?
