Do you know what was the most FRUSTRATING part of my “stuttering dissolution journey”?

It was the fact that I knew what to do to change my speech for better, but my mind and body was RESISTING that change no matter how hard I tried!

It’s like learning new speaking techniques which you know if you use them they would help you to speak in a lot better and smoother way, but for some reason you RESIST using them. It might be your mind, your body or some other reason but you simply resist using them even though you know you could speak better if you use them.

As a result, you try to speak with your old speech patterns and end up experiencing stuttering and blocking.

The equation was actually very easy.

…use your new techniques while speaking and you’ll have a better speech.

However, for some strange reason I couldn’t understand, I RESIST doing that and I kept going back to my old speech patterns which were only giving me speech struggles and blocks.

You might be going through the same stage or experiencing something similar. If so, I strongly suggest you to keep reading this article till the end.

A personal story…

I was going through a very hard time in my life. I was at a stage where I had HOPE but on the same time I was really FRUSTRATED.

I had hope because…
I kind of knew that improving my speech to a great level was possible… as long as I sticked to my speaking tools, techniques and strategies.

I was frustrated, because…
Even though I knew changing my speech patterns would help me to manage my speech successfully and speak in a lot better way, I was RESISTING the change.

I stopped calling my mentor. I just didn’t know what to say, because I knew what to do but I wasn’t doing what I was supposed to do. I was frustrated. To be honest I was mad at myself too.

WHY the hell I wasn’t following what works and instead I was insisting on using my old ways and struggle severely with my speech?

That just wasn’t making any sense to me. I couldn’t understand myself, I couldn’t understand why I was doing it.

Imagine this…

You have 2 options in front of you; your old way of speaking and your new way of speaking. One will give you the results you want and the other will keep you where you are. It was the easiest decision ever, but I simply couldn’t do it.

Let me give you an example…

It was the time when I graduated from university and I was applying for jobs. Online application through internet was getting popular so I had no problems applying… but SPEAKING to companies either on the phone or in person was one of my worst nightmares.

One day I saw a missed call on my cell phone and apparently the person who called left a voice-mail. The voice-mail said something in the lines of:

“Hi Chazzler, I am Jennifer from Company X and I am calling to talk to you about your job application to our company. Please give me a call at this number when you received this voice mail. I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you!”

Believe it or not I still can feel what I was going through when I listened that voice mail. Wasn’t I supposed to feel good? Yes, I felt good… only for half a second!

Why? Because this meant that I HAD TO make a phone call, introduce myself and speak to the person on the phone! She’ll find out about my speech on the phone and probably will change her mind offering me a job interview. Besides, worst of all, I didn’t want to make a fool of myself in front of those people. I just wished I could speak in a relaxed, smooth and confident way without stuttering!

But wait a second! I had the tools to do that. Actually, may be I couldn’t speak like a fluent person yet but I could manage my speech and speak in a lot better way if I stick with my new way of speaking.

After going through some extremely high stress, I called her back! My plan was to use my tools, techniques and strategies, which I proved myself numerous times that I could use and manage my speech in a lot better way with the help of them.

I called her back and… stutter severely!

I did NOT stick with ANY of my speech management skills and as a result I ended up with a horrible speech and a horrible communication session. I felt so bad that I hang up the phone on her which guaranteed me a missed interview opportunity

I was so frustrated, mad at myself, felt desperate… and a thousand more negative feelings you could imagine.

Coincidentally my mentor called me the next day. He was checking back to make sure I was doing OK because he hadn’t heard from me for more than 2 weeks. I wasn’t feeling like speaking but I did anyways.

Mentor: Did you already find out in our practice sessions that your new speaking skills can really help you manage your speech?

Me: Yes… but it doesn’t matter because I am not using them.

Mentor: Why aren’t you using them?

Me: I don’t know, my body just reacts that way. I start speaking and the next thing you know I am back and lost in my old speaking ways.

Mentor: Why do you think you are resisting that change? You already know that your new speaking skills help you to manage your speech greatly. Why should you stick with your old ways which only creates severe speech struggle to you?

Me: I know I know…and that’s why I am frustrated with myself. I don’t know why but it just happens.

Mentor: I know it just happens.

Me: You do?

Mentor: Yes I do…because I was exactly in your shoes and I know what you mean, I can relate with the frustration you are going through.

Mentor continued: Change is always uncomfortable Chazzler and we as human beings always resist change. However, you need to be aware of the fact that you can’t keep everything the same and expect a change in your life.

If you want to achieve better things in life, if you want to get yourself to the next level in any area in your life, you need TO CHANGE something…and in order to change something about you, YOU need to change first. Change is not an on/off switch, it is a PROCESS.

However, even though change is a process, every change starts with a simple step and if you don’t take that step nothing will happen. It’s the crossroad where you choose your future. That decision might not make that change happen overnight but it will put you in the right pathway which will take you to your ultimate goal.

So, here is what I’d suggest you to do:

1) Decide if you really want to change

2) If you don’t want to change then that’s totally fine… just learn to live with it and try getting used to living a not very exciting life with not many successes.

3) If you do want the change, then make a decision today! Change is not possible WITHOUT taking a step further for that change.

4) If you already made your decision and took that first step but still you are not getting the results you want then question your needs.

Is that your resistance to change?
Is that because you lack knowledge?
Is that because you lack strong inner game?
Is that because you lack powerful outer game?
…or is that because you just need somebody with you to take you from the hand and help you to make that change happen?

Those are the questions which only YOU can answer…but once you answer those questions, if you feel like you need help to change everything for better, know that I am always here to help you in the best way I can.

Remember that change is always uncomfortable, but it is the core of BECOMING BETTER.

As I said, overcoming your stuttering challenge requires some changes both in you and in your life.

…And that is perfectly fine.
Because if you want a MAJOR CHANGE in your life, you can’t keep everything else in your life THE SAME, and EXPECT a SUCCESSFUL, PERMANENT change.

All the changes in my life happened because I started to do something DIFFERENT than ordinary, or I met with NEW people who lead me to the right direction when I had no idea where to go or what to do.

I agree that change is always uncomfortable, but I personally get excited before a change. Meeting new people, coming across new information/knowledge makes me EXCITED.
Life is boring when everything around you is expected, don’t you think so?

Some people never leave their comfort zones so that they can feel SECURE. I strongly don’t recommend you do that. Well…of course if you want to change things for BETTER.

Let me give you 2 quotes to think about…

“A ship in port is safe, but that is not what ships are built for!”
Grace Hopper

“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you have always gotten.”
Anthony Robbins (I think)

Very thought provoking quotes!

Just give what we discussed in this artcile some thought and let me know if you have any questions by commenting below. Also, feel free to leave a comment and let everyone know if you have any favorite quotes on stuttering and change.

Until next time, take care yourself and do not resist changing for better… because that is what’s going to take you to your goals and dreams in life!

Wish you all the best,

We all know that the importance of self confidence and self-esteem is HUGE when it comes to dealing with stuttering.

Today, I am going to share with you a 3 step system which will improve your self-esteem to a high level in 3 simple yet powerful steps.

But before getting into that…

I want to tell you about my new friend Dr.X who is a very successful dentist…well, who WAS a very successful dentist but decided to quit his job(or “career” I should say) to shape his future and his life in a different way.

I know hard to believe, but that’s the story… true story!

Dr. X decided that there was something missing in his life, and working as a dentist was not going to fulfill him.

As unusual as it may sound, Dr. X stopped working as a dentist

… and he is now a very well known expert on self-esteem. He is a personal development trainer and a success coach.

Today, Dr. X is known by his successful Self-Esteem System… and that’s what I am going to talk about today.

First let me ask you this question…

How would you define self-esteem?

Dr. X says self-esteem is the feeling of being confident and capable of moving your life forward in any of the 6 main areas of your life… some of those 6 areas being health and appearance, relationship and family, wealth and finances, having fun, having a balanced life, being personally and spiritually fulfilled, etc.

Do you know why Dr. X decided to stop working as a dentist?

Because he realized that his passion and one of his values in life was being an inspiration to people. Writing was one of his strongest skills and he had the ability to create systems which make people to feel good about themselves.

Have you ever heard the saying “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life” ?

I guess Dr. X is a great example for that.

Anyways, back to Dr.X’s 3 step Self-Esteem System…

Here are the 3 main steps in Dr. X’s Self-Esteem System:

STEP-1: Complete Your Past
STEP-2: Assess Your Present
STEP-3: Design Your Future

Step-1 is about completing your past.
How good, loveable, worthy, adequate are you?
How you can stop sabotaging your success and how you can access to the abundance in the world and great things in life.

In this step you actually discover what you “made up” for yourself in the past… which did not support you at all.
In one of the TV programs, I remember Dr. X mentioned that we might not able to change the history, but we are able to change our interpretation about history!

Step-2 is about questioning and analyzing your present.
What is in your world today?
What’s working and what’s missing in your life?

And finally Step-3 is about designing your future and making the right choices.

In simplest terms, Dr. X’s 3 step system is all about clearing up your past and moving powerfully to the future.

So, who is really Dr. X? and what exactly is his 3-Step Self-Esteem System which he has been getting great results for years?

You can meet Dr. X and learn more about his 3 step Self-Esteem System by clicking here.

Wish you all the best,

Chazzler
P.S: I still can’t believe he stopped being a dentist. My father is a dentist too and I can’t even imagine him taking such a step. May be I should convince him to:) Dr. Joe is also a very good example when it comes to defining your core values and shaping your life around those values to experience a happier and more fulfilled life . See Dr. Joe in action

Hey guys,

Today is October 22, which is the…

International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD).

When I first thought about this day and what I should share with you, I thought…

What should I do? Should I give a report about how to deal with stuttering? or should I provide some tips on stuttering? or would showing you some techniques for a feared situation be a better idea? may be making a video for inner game strategies would be the best!?

Thoughts were everywhere… but I finally decided what to do.

I decided to do none of those. Because, this day is much more than a new speaking technique or a tip or strategy to manage your speech.

This day is about increasing the awareness of stuttering. However, I think we need to increase our awareness of stuttering before spreading it to the general public. Therefore, I want to save this post to the core of what this day is about…

This day is about being a person who has a stuttering challenge in life.

…and that’s why instead of giving you some tips, techniques or strategies, I decided to speak freely without worrying about my speech… especially considering the fact that I didn’t give myself the right to do so for years because of my stuttering!

I had always worried about my speech. I wanted to sound fluent. I didn’t want people to judge me by my speech. All I focused on was the way my speech came across. I had never considered what I really wanted to express and say… instead all I cared was “hiding the fact that I was a stutterer”.

I am a stutterer!

It took me years to admit that… even to myself.

I always resisted that fact since I believed stuttering was something which was making me pitiful, less than others and not enough.

There is no question that stuttering is a huge obstacle on our way to live the life we desire, but does it really worth the burden we have been carrying on our shoulders for all these years?

Is your reality really “THE REALITY”?

…or is it just wrong perceptions and limiting beliefs as a result of years of negative experiences?

What makes you think that stuttering makes you “less” or “not enough”? What makes you think that you cannot achieve anything in life because you have this big problem called stuttering?

This is true when it comes to overcoming stuttering as well, but since today is International Stuttering Awareness Day, I want to talk about all those beliefs surrounding stuttering in general.

Most of us let stuttering hijack our life. We give it the power to control EVERYTHING in our life. In fact, we sometimes live as a slave of our stuttering.

I can honestly tell you that you are a lot more valuable person than you might think. YES, even if you are the most severe stutterer in the history.

Most of us think that stuttering is the worst thing that can happen to us. We believe nothing can be worse. I remember, I used to wish I was mute. My hijacked brain was telling me that if I was mute, at least I wouldn’t have to speak at all, so I wouldn’t have to worry about stuttering. I know, pathetic

Sometimes we all need to realize that life is not as easy as we might think and letting stuttering take this great life from us is the worst thing a stutterer can do to himself/herself.

This might not make any sense to you right now, but stuttering is NOT a good enough reason not to live your life to the fullest.

Don’t let stuttering take control of you and your life, don’t let it ruin your future… because it doesn’t WORTH it.

Anything you can achieve as a “fluent” person, you can achieve as a stutterer. Remember that dreams are there to turn into goals, goals into action plans and action plans into realities!

All you need to do is not to give up… fight for your life and get rid of all the wrong perceptions and limiting beliefs you have around your stuttering.

I’d like to list 4 thoughts for you and then I’ll share a video with video. The video is not necessarily about stuttering, but I think there is a lot to learn from this video which I’m going to share with you in a minute.

So the list of 4 thoughts first…

1- Your problem is not as bad as you think.

2- No matter how big you think your problem is, you can succeed in life.

3- Your perceptions are not the reality!.. and you will never find out what the reality is until you actually face the real world and experience the reality!

4- You might have thousands of reasons to give up, but all it takes is one strong personality, clear mind and a definite action to change everything for better in life.

Very Important: I am not sharing this video with you because I see stuttering as a disability, not at all! In fact, unlike disabilities, I think stuttering is something we can overcome.

Anyways, overcoming stuttering is not the topic of the day and this video has nothing to do with it. But I think this video has a lot to teach us… and I hope it makes you think again when it comes to you, your stuttering and your goals and dreams in life.

I suggest you to watch this closely… and pay special attention to 7:56. That’s my favorite line in that video.

“It just makes everything you worry about so pathetic!”

Life is beautiful so enjoy it while you can. Do not let your stuttering take your life away from you. You deserve a lot better than living a life which is hijacked by your stuttering mindset!

Take care and happy International Stuttering Awareness Day

Your damn cool stutterer friend,

Chazzler

P.S: Leave a comment below and show the world that you are a damn cool stutterer too

As a stutterer myself, speaking on the phone was a huge nightmare for me. I used to avoid making phone calls at all cost, even if that means…

…writing a long email to my credit card company(which I’ll have to wait for a couple days to get a response) instead of calling the customer service and get my answer right away.

OR ;

…driving all the way to the other side of the city to order and pick up my pizza instead of ordering it on the phone just by picking up the phone and placing my order in less than 2 minutes.

I know it doesn’t make any sense… in fact it might sound funny, but it is the plain truth about my experiences with stuttering and phone calls. I guess, going through all that hassle must have been LESS emotionally painful than struggling with my speech on the phone.

So, if you can relate with those kinds of negative experiences, just bear with me here because I am going to share 3 stuttering tips with you which you can use to speak easily and confidently on the phone without experiencing speech struggles.

Tip-1: No matter who the person you are calling on the phone is, never ever think that he/she is superior than you. One of the most dangerous psychological triggers of the stuttering behaviour is the self limiting belief of “I am LESS THAN others”.

This mindset will sure work against you and therefore will kill your chances of speaking the way you want to speak in any situation… including speaking on the phone.

Let me make one thing clear for you. I was told this hundreds of times, but I didn’t completely believe in it until I experienced and lived this REALITY!

You are NOT less than anybody else just because you are a person who stutters. Let me repeat this, you are NOT less than anybody else! You don’t owe to anybody just because you have a stuttering challenge. Don’t try to please others thinking that they are superior and unfortunately they have to communicate with a person who stutters like yourself. No, no, no…

Self respect is something you should never underestimate the power of. Remember that as people we are all something, but none of us are everything!

Tip-2: Make sure you resist time pressure. We, as stutterers, tend to rush our speech… especially when we are EXPECTED to speak.

Think about it, when you get asked a question, what is the first thing you do? Say something right away, right? Don’t you have that tendency to start speaking as soon as possible? Most stutterers do.

So, what can you do to counterattack that?

Right! Resist time pressure and speak when you are ready to speak… not when you are expected to speak.

Pause and breath properly before you start speaking. If nothing else, it’ll stop your tendency to rush your speech. Pausing on purpose (before you answer a question for example) is a good way to bring the conversation to your terms.

Keep your assertive right and do not try to match your speech rhythm or speed(especially when initiating your voice) to the “possible” expectations of others.

Don’t start speaking as soon as you hear the “Hello” sound on the other side of the phone line. You don’t have to speak right away, just take your time and initiate your sentence when you are ready to initiate it…especially if you are using some effective speaking tools and techniques to manage your speech.

Tip-3: Use effective physical and mental speaking techniques which would help you to manage your speech successfully once you are on the phone. This is a critical part of the process which is extremely underestimated because of our previous negative stuttering treatment experiences… which all we got were either no or temporary results.

If those techniques are really effective and powerful techniques, and you use them with the right mentality, they would give you the confidence to face “speaking on the phone fear” of yours and know that you can handle and manage it successfully as long as you stick with them.

So, those were 3 quick stuttering tips for you when it comes to speaking on the phone.

Stuttering help is actually something we all need to improve our speech and reach our speaking goals, but we lost hope in time. Why? Because none of the help we tried so far was able to meet our expectations and fully satisfy us.

I strongly believe that the trick is overcoming stuttering the RIGHT way! You need to get help from the right people, on the right time. You need to learn the right knowledge and apply it the right way… and last but not least you need to approach the whole subject with the right mindset.

Anyways, this is a whole different subject by itself. I’ll try covering it on another time.

OK, let’s just wrap this up…

3 stuttering tips for speaking on the phone without struggling with your speech are:

1) Get over your limiting belief that you are less than others. Treat the phone conversation as a communication session and never lose your self-respect just because you have a stuttering challenge.

2) Resist time pressure while speaking on the phone…especially before initiating your sentences. Managing your speech is critical in stressful speaking situations, and rushing your speech would make your speech almost impossible to manage.

3) Learn and use effective physical and mental speaking techniques which will give you the confidence and enable you to manage your speech successfully while speaking on the phone.

I hope you enjoyed the article… and please feel free to comment below and share your thoughts on the subject. Is there any stuttering tips you’d like to share with others when it comes to speaking on the phone?

Until next time…take care yourself and keep in mind that stuttering is NOT a good enough reason not to live your life to the fullest!

Have you ever wondered how you can stop your stuttering without spending thousands of dollars?

Let me guess…

You probably have tried some kind of stuttering treatment one way or another at some point in your life… or may be you always wanted to but you just couldn’t afford it.

We all know that stuttering treatments such as speech therapy, intensive stuttering management programs, technological devices and many others cost thousands of dollars to even try them.

…and worst of all, unfortunately they rarely meet stutterers’ expectations!

I personally spent more than $20,000 to be able to find a solution for my stuttering. However, I always ended up getting either NO or TEMPORARY results from those stuttering treatments.

In this article, I’m going to share with you how you can improve your speech and overcome your stuttering challenge without spending a fortune.

First of all, finding a solution to your stuttering has nothing to do with how much money you spent or are willing to spend on it. Overcoming stuttering is not about “how much”, it is about “HOW TO”.

It’s about understanding and approaching stuttering the right way. It’s about learning the right skills and applying them the right way, on the right time with the help of right people.

Let me give you a couple tips:

1) If you want to improve your speech to a great level and eventually overcome your stuttering challenge, you need to play both sides of the game;

The Inner and Outer Game of Stuttering.

Inner game is your mental strength, your mindset and how you approach the problem, where Outer Game is the speaking tools, techniques and strategies you use to manage your speech.

One needs to play both sides of this Stuttering Game. If one side of your game is weak, I can assure you that you won’t be able to achieve the results you desire at the end of the day.

For example;

If your inner game is not strong enough, it is almost impossible to get real life results even if you use the perfect stuttering techniques from the perfect speech therapy program of all time.

So, make sure you address both sides of the game in order to be able to win this game and achieve the results you desire.

2) Never ever think that the more expensive the therapy is the more effective it is. There are a lot of expensive and misleading programs on the market (both online and offline). However, there are also very effective and helpful programs and courses. Sometimes you can benefit 10 times more from a not very expensive program than you benefit from a program which costs thousands of dollars.

3) Stay away from “cure stuttering” or “quick fix” type of promises which quite a number of products and programs(especially online) use to advertise their business. Look for trust, look for bonding. Make sure they CARE about you and they know what they are talking about. Get to know them before making a decision.

As I said, the price of a stuttering course has nothing to do with its effectiveness. Don’t be fooled with high prices or misleading promises.

There are a lot of expensive stuttering treatments which has no value, and similarly there are cheap products which are just scams. When it comes to stuttering treatment and answering the question “how to stop stuttering?…

… the answer you should look for is not about “how much” but about “HOW TO”…which brings me to the next point.

4) Make sure the stuttering treatment you choose to go for addresses both aspects of the stuttering game. Remember, inner game and outer game is the answer when it comes to dissolving your fear of stuttering and being able to eventually reach your ultimate goal and stop stuttering.

If you don’t address both aspects, no matter how much you paid, you’ll probably end up with no or temporary results… just like I did for years!

If you’d like to learn more about the inner and outer game of stuttering and how you can improve your speech to a great level and eventually overcome your stuttering challenge without spending thousands of dollars, then…
